St Fimbarrus, the parish church of Fowey, Cornwall
The church is dedicated to Saint Finbarr and is listed Grade I. It was built in the early 14th century and rededicated in 1336, replacing a previous Norman church. The church was damaged by the French in 1457, and repaired in 1460 by the Earl of Warwick, when the clerestory and the north and south aisles were rebuilt.
Only the font has survived from the Norman church here. With a round bowl and striking palmette leaf design, it is typical of 11th century fonts in South Cornwall.
Clerestory is not a word that often crops up in conversation.
It is a row of upper windows, seen in the photograph.
