Tiny Tuesday : : Borage

Today was another triple digit afternoon and a "Spare the Air" day. We took Ozzie around Lake Ralphine early in the morning. He  can swim there if we get there before the people fishing, the pedal boaters, kayakers and the kids arrive. It's a blessing that everything cools off at night so that we can sleep and it's still cool enough in the morning for a walk. The ducks made me laugh as they all bobbed around in the shallows going bottoms up and even swimming around that way in their pursuit of whatever it is under the water that they like to eat.

I spent the morning vacuuming, something I ardently loathe. It always involves a lot more than running the vacuum around because I put it off for so long that by the time I tackle it, it also involves dusting, massive spiderweb busting, mopping and a nagging backache….

Ozzie seems to take the heat in stride, despite the fact that he is a large black dog with a heavy undercoat. He moves between his two beds…one in the living room and one in the bedroom, and the cool tile floor in the bathroom, twitching and dreaming of chasing rabbits without actually exerting himself.

By the time I started thinking about a macro shot, I had been pinning and sewing Will's quilt together, the air conditioning had turned on inside the house, and I felt dazed by the heat which hit me in the chest when I went outside in search of something tiny. I confess that the borage just outside the back door in the herb bed, and a long dried grass in a vase on my desk were the only possibilities. There were lots of bees on the borage, but I like the flowers that look like little birds.

We Californians have a saying…"it's really hot, but it's a dry heat", which means low humidity and a minimum of sweat unless you exert yourself. I don't think sitting on the couch watching two house finches chasing each other  around the bird feeder constitutes exertion. It  may be time to lift my wine glass to my lips in  a few minutes….

Thanks to Walking Wombat for hosting this week. I love her enthusiastic cheerleading….
