Baby Great Spotted Woodpecker

The extra is of the same young bird a few days ago where is red top is much brighter. It seems to be fading quickly but I can't tell if it is male or female yet. It no longer comes with the parents . How quickly they have to  grow up, last week Mum was refusing to feed it and kept pushing it away.
