Composition No 2013 - Oban Colosseum

Built around 1897 by local banker John McCaig, McCaig's Tower resembles a Roman Colosseum.
Standing 220 feet above sea level with a a circumference of 600 feet and height of 45 feet there are two tiers of windows, 44 on the bottom and 50 above. I counted them.
McCaig's dream and ultimate plan was to build a museum and art gallery in a Romanesque architectural style with a central tower housing family statues to serve as a lasting monument and memorial to him and his descendents. After spending a reputed £5k, he died with the project uncompleted.
I visited it in the 1970's returning last week to discover that the local council have filled in the interior with earth and made it into a wee park.
The statuary which I recall graced the 94 windows has vanished.
Brilliant place and well worth a visit but sadly lacking in visitor information ............
