In which: let's face the music

Downstairs is my 13 year old son. This week he got his report and in every subject got A* or A for attainment and 1* or 1 for effort. He is incredibly self-effacing for someone with an immense intellect, musical and sporting prowess. He's a lovely, down-to-earth lad.

Today he said to me so sadly that he's upset that he didn't get to vote. He sees his future in Europe and is upset by what has happened. All I can do is to suggest he takes Modern Foreign Languages as far as he can because it will take a decade for all this to be sorted and at that point he'll just be finishing uni. He may well need to pass some points based criteria to find a decent career on the continent if Britain descends into stagnation and poor growth.

We have to face the music for our kids.
