Hard Luck

Same old, same old. We pinned our hopes on a Gold medal for Cavendish who surely deserved it after taking a back seat in the Tour de France when he gave up a chance for the green jersey in order to help Wiggins win the race.

How devastating was it then when the GB team misread the game plan of the other teams and failed to deliver him for a sprint finish and the Gold medal.
It almost felt like a re run of the Wimbledon final when Murray lost to Federer and couldn't hide his disappointment and nor could we Brits.

It wasn't that team GB didn't put their hearts and souls into the effort yesterday, but they didn't realise how much the teams with no hope of producing a winner were so unprepared to do any work and take the front of the pelaton.

With Cavendish disappointed, the Murray brothers out of the tennis doubles in the first round, the Scottish swimmer Hannah Miley beaten into 5th place, Paula Radcliffe about to withdraw from the Women's marathon because of injury and the Dutch women giving the British women road cyclists a hard time as I type, I'm becoming despondent.

We still have Tom Daley, but the chinese divers are amazing, so I'm not holding my breath.
We tend to put too much pressure on our athletes and forget that the rest of the world is a huge place with other amazing Gold medal winners waiting in the wings.

I just hope that Wiggins has enough energy left to deliver a gold to us in the time trial on Wednesday.
Fingers crossed.
