Hebrides Day 8 Over the sea
We left Lewis in the pouring rain and reached Harris in the sunshine. We had a bacon roll and a cup of tea at Tarbet before travelling down to catch the ferry at Leverburgh. We had a wonderful calm crossing to Berneray. We had lunch, smoked Salmon Salad and jacket potato in the little cafe and then drove round the island. A completely different feel to Harris and Lewis. Lots more houses both modern and old and many of the Blackhouses have been renovated ti make self catering accomodation. We watched the seals while drinking tea and wondered among the machair.
We walked past one graveyard to the stunning beach above. We listened to skylarks as we sat on the rocks.
We then made our way through roads lined with little blue lochs to the Guest house where we are staying for the next two nights at Nunton. Benbecula.
The evening was so beautiful that we explored abit more coming across a harbour with some wonderful, colourful boats with seals bobbing about and resting on the rocks and deer on the hillside. We found the beach near to where we are staying and watched a fishing boat returning from a day fishing. Eider ducks and their babies swam near the shore.
We've already seen 3 shorted eared owls so hopeful we'll see some more, especially as one was hunting in front of us where we are staying.
The sky turned a beautiful some pink . Should get some sleep now as we're going to Barra tomorrow :)
