Françoise Dufayard holding two dishes we bought
... today at `Earth and Fire', an annual ceramics fair that is held at Rufford Abbey Countrypark in Nottinghamshire. We love her bright lively colours and painterly marks.
A wonderful setting and a fantastic event and there are still two more days to go if you are in the area. We bought these from Francoise who is French and also from Dutch, German, Japanese and English potters and completely blew our budget (hopefully the cheque for the two prints I sold in Penistone will arrive soon!) Maybe it was an over reaction to the devastating news that our fellow Brits have voted us out of Europe. How could David Cameron have been so stupid as to go for a referendum in the first place. Not only that, but he clearly misjudged the mood of the country where so many people feel let down, penalised and totally disenfranchised. This has been their way at hitting back at politics and politicians. And I guess with the pound devaluing by the minute we felt we'd be better off surrounding ourselves with nice things rather than watching our pounds shrinking in our wallets!
And they produce such lovely stuff it would be a shame not to support them. This year we've gone for things we can use rather than sculptural ceramics.
