Wound up in Wexford

Odd feeling

At 6am a friend of W saw fit to What's App him about the referendum result.  The resulting notification on W's mobile didn't wake him, but did wake me.  I thought - "I'll just check that we voted Remain" - to be sadly disabused - no way I was getting back to sleep after discovering that the population of the UK had been persuaded to vote for Brexit!

At work, the oddness continued.  When I left last night the Air Ambulance had been left parked on our landing spot - I assumed because of the thunderstorm that followed them in yesterday evening.  It was still there when I arrived at work this morning.  In fact, it was "broken", and was awaiting the arrival of an engineer from somewhere down South.  It was STILL there when I left work at lunchtime.

Also outside the department was the Immigration Enforcement van - "What, already?" we thought!  No idea why it was there.

And for the first time in ages our corridor (otherwise known as escalation) was empty of patients (awaiting a cubicle space) in the middle of the day.  Was everyone too shocked by the result to get ill today?  Or was England playing an unscheduled match?

I generally avoid contentious stuff when posting on Facebook or on Blip.  But today I feel I must say something about how I feel.  I have been really upset by the Referendum Campaign - by the lies and aggression coming from BOTH sides.  I saw a comment, on Blip I think, that we should accept that people genuinely and rationally wanted to leave the EU, and that they were not expressing xenophobia with this desire.  This particular person may have good and sincerely held views about Brexit, and not be xenophobic or racist at all; but sadly, I feel that the majority of those who voted for Brexit did so because of the immigration propaganda, and are xenophobic and/or racist.  And that is not a comfortable thing to feel about my fellow Brits.  Today, I am really unsure whether I want to be British any more.
