Tree Fungi

While on our last trip north, my granddaughter and I went for
several hikes on the property.  That far north, the land is has
a growing period each season, but now with the proper weather,
there is a wealth of green!  This poor tree has its days numbered
because of the fungi; unless this type of fungi grows on healthy
trees.  Does anyone know?
