Dad's Army
I made a good decision. I woke to grey sky, fog and rain. Despite that, I decided to go forward with my plan to visit the Isle of Wight steam railway. Even when the Wightlink catamaran was sitting at the end of Ryde Pier I could still barely see the island but, by the time the bus reached Wotton Station, the sun was beginning to break through and we were down to a light drizzle. By the time the steam train arrived, the sun was shining nicely.
A bonus for visiting the railway today was a school trip to the railway. School parties are, let's be honest, usually a bummer. But this one was good because the children and the adults were dressed in World War Two costumes, with all the children as evacuees. They looked amazing, especially this chap.
From the railway I took a bus to Shanklin and then had a lovely walk along the shore to Sandown before taking a bus back to Ryde. I took lots of photographs of the hovercraft before taking a far more scenic ride on the upper deck of the catamaran back to Portsmouth Harbour.
