Best laid plans....

I learned today that it pays to think through a plan to the bitter end.

A short while ago the health club where I swim announced it was closing at the end of June. I've been looking at alternatives and settled on another club which is nearby, has better facilities, is the same monthly price but offers a discount equivalent to two months subscription if you pay a year in advance, and is also offering an extra free month to ex-members of my old club. A definite win-win situation. I knew from when I was shown round that you need a padlock for the lockers so I bought myself one which has a combination lock so that I didn't have to carry a key with me into the swimming pool.

Today I signed up and used the club for the first time. I did my normal swim, used the steam room and sauna, and felt very refreshed. I headed back to the changing rooms for my shower which was when it dawned on me. To open my locker I needed to unlock the padlock. To unlock the padlock I needed to set the right combination. To set the right combination I needed to put on my glasses. My glasses were inside the closed and padlocked locker.

I had to ask someone else to do it for me which rather defeats the object of having a combination. I've now bought a padlock with a key.
