Olympic Victory
I've been to Lord's Cricket Ground lots of times, but I've never seen it quite like it was today.
Lord's has been transformed into the archery venue for the London Olympics, and it is a fantastic place to watch archery. They've installed temporary stands to seat 5000 on the main playing area, with the archers firing across the square. I was lucky to get a ticket for the final stages of the men's team event, which over a four hour period went from eight teams down to a dramatic finale between the USA and Italy. The Italians prevailed by successfully scoring a bulls-eye with the final arrow of the event - fantastic tension.
Today's blip is the moment when the Italian team received their gold medals - the chap with his fists in the air fired the final arrow.
Today was a wonderful day to be in London. The city was heaving with tourists, supporters, athletes and volunteer guides, everyone seemed to have a smile on their face and the weather was wonderful too. Any Olympic cynicism I might have had has been swept away. Welcome to London 2012.
UPDATE: And there are a few more pictures from my Olympic Weekend on Flickr
