The Elephant In The Room
After several year's gap, York Cycle Rally is back on; rebirth of an iconic annual event on the Knavesmire every June. It's everything about York - bikes galore, all types, all sizes. And some really nice folk to chat with.
This is Brian, who works as a volunteer for a charity who restore old Royal Mail bikes in new livery (the PO won't allow them to be sold in original red). Then they sell them as "Elephant Bikes" [extra] for a very sensible price (I'm seriously thinking about buying one to add to my two-wheeled collection...).
For every bike sold in this country, they export one to a small township in Malawi where local folk then have transport to get around and find work. The charity also supports the local Mother Teresa Childrens' Center for pre-school children.
Prime example of how the UK working in partnership with other countries is so much bigger and better than going it alone. Long may it remain...
