Villette Bridge

This is the bridge just north of our hotel, over the canal leading northeast from the Bassin de la Villette.  The "drawbridge" has risen part way (it stays horizontal) to make way for a large canal tour boat.  The extra image is taken in nearly the opposite direction from the high bridge on the left, after the boat passed, as the drawbridge is being lowered (it's almost entirely down, as you can see looking carefully). The whole operation was fun to see, and I was lucky--it was during just a short late afternoon walk, and no other boats were in sight in either direction; we've seen only one other during our stay.  It poured rain virtually all day--so constantly and so strongly that we otherwise ventured out only for lunch :(
