Accessorising

I can't wait to start accessorising the Summer House, and this is the little cabinet and wooden heart we bought the other week. The colours match really well!

It's certainly had a good weatherproofing test after all the rain we had last night and today - so much for the first day of summer! Alan checked it out when he got home from work and noticed a couple of small damp patches just above floor level. From what we can see, the rain has been pouring off the roof and splashing onto the soil, which in turn has been splashing the base. So he's now planning to fit a gutter to the roof and will dig the ground away more, then lay some gravel. He's also going to line it inside with a moisture barrier before insulating it. It's a nuisance but better that we've seen the problem before he fitted the insulation and cladding.

Today at work, I covered reception this morning and the sweetest old man came in. He told me the sad story of how his wife was diagnosed with cancer last year and she died a couple of months ago. He said they'd been married for 67 years and he's all on his own now, but that he's 92 so probably won't be around for much longer. It took everything I had not to blubber in front of him!
