For the love of running

I love a good running event. Whether I'm running or spectating I love getting caught up in the atmosphere and emotion and sheer grit of a good event. I went out for a run last week and accidentally got caught in the middle of a Race for Life and even though I wasn't supposed to be in the race, I couldn't help getting the same goosebumpy moments you get when running along with a group of people who are pushing themselves physically, more often than not for causes close to their hearts.

Yesterday at the Shrewsbury Half Marathon (which I couldn't take part in due to a niggly knee injury a few months ago) I saw the full range of brilliant runners: the elites looking for PBs, the masses running for charities and those trailing behind looking utterly exhausted and wondering if they'd ever make it out alive. I didn't take many pictures because I was clapping my hands raw and shouting manic encouragements at strangers.

I had to have an afternoon nap after all that physical exertion.
