Mechanical Chicken!
Friend didn't have her chemo as planned when she had gone Friday as she had an emotional breakdown as she had forgotten and missed a reflexology appointment - it's been a particularly stressful week and she has also made some big decisions. So to make the most of her 2 weeks off chemo I took her to a Producers market!
The market takes place once a month at an old Cornish Sawmill, it's where I bought my xmas tree! Despite the clouds in the sky the sun shone out most of the time and we had a great time chatting to the stall holders and sampling their ware! Honey from Cotehele, Olives from Portugal, jams and pickles and breads! I bought a sourdough bread with figs and walnuts in to go with the Cotehele honey! There were also plant stalls where we sniffed the flowers and I got chatted up by a rather sleazy old man!!!
The crafts were similarly wonderful and I bought a reversible bag with one handle that pokes through a short non handle the other side - reminded me of an 18th C drawstring bag the elegant ladies would take with them when visiting friends in grand drawing rooms or to a Ball! At the Seconds Pottery stall I bought Friend and myself a bowl and plate - everyone needs attractive breakfast dishes! Even though I'm not a big breakfast eater! But will be good for soup and a roll too!
Of course I also bought a chicken! There was a whole table and shelves of wire animals - the lady informed us her son who has Autism made them, at college he had made a whole Noah's Ark which was so big they couldn't bring it home! She called her son to do the money side and she handed me an A4 envelope which was the chickens certificate! It had Chicken 20 written on it with a photo of said chicken and inside the same photo with all the information about it - Wire type, gauge, weight, length, height, width, chicken number and date made!
After all this fun we sat in the sun and had a pasty and slice of orange cake chatting and watching a bird of prey hanging in the sky until a seagull bombed it! Time for home and to pick up 2 scented small geraniums from the first stall we had visited on arriving!
As we drove up the long bumpy track to the main road I spotted a field which had been full of swaying grass but which was now dotted with strips of cut grass and grass rolls - I stopped the first place I could and ran back. Imagine my delight when a red tractor appeared over the horizon! I have never wondered how they make the rolls, but now I know! There is a machine pulled by the tractor which hoovers up the cut grass and when full the farmer reverses, the back opens up and out pops the roll - it was like a mechanical chicken laying an egg! What a perfect end to a perfect excursion! More photos of the grass egg laying here!
