Transitions

We had the pleasure of attending our granddaughter Z's middle school graduation ceremony today, along with the families and friends of 349 other students who will be moving up to the challenges of four years of high school later this year. (Z is on the left here.)

When I was her age -- 14 -- all of my classmates were white. In Z's class, there were students whose families' roots were in other countries, but here, they were all Americans. These students, no matter what their parents' incomes were, had access to excellent educations. How I wish that the same could be said about every child in the United States!

Fourteen is such a fascinating age to observe -- one moment contemplative (see extra photo) and the next, just the opposite, as recorded by Phil!
