Anne's Daily Encounters

Gigantic & Impressive

Spent the day in Brussels visiting the Palais de Justice  there and Bozar theatre and the city, including its catacombs... never knew they have them too like Rome and Paris.

Here's one part of the entrance into the Justice Palace of Brussels that's built by the plans of architect Joseph Poelaert in the 19th century. It's a gigantic building... bigger than the Pope's St Peter in Rome ! I didn't know this yet.
The building's architect was a Free Mason and it's known he's put many masonry symbols into this building, like the 21 meters stairway from the basement with cells for the convicts up to the courtrooms where justice is spoken... so it's one way up towards freedom or a depressing return way down to the cellars for punishment ~ put a pic of that stairways in the extras.
Took many more pix of this building where is little light lit with many courtrooms and lots of history up to today.

The 2 sculpts at the base of this stairways figure Lykourgos  and Demothenes , both ancient Greeks and the name of Lykourgos reminded me on instant of an uncle bearing that very same name.
