Wrens' Last Days
Our early summer days with the garden wrens are nearly over. The fledglings in the nest are showing their heads at the opening, and they'll probably leave in a few days. This is the second year they've chosen this site, and I have been in awe of how melodious they are and how varied their songs. They play quite a set list. Even when they approach the nest with a bug, small worm, or other food in their beaks, they sing before going in. How cool is that? In the words of Bob Dylan, "You're gonna make me lonesome when you go."
