A Mews in London
This is a broad view of Spear Mews, close to Earls Court tube station in in London SW5. The term mews historically described a row of stables for horses; nowadays in cities it usually designates a dead-end alley which formerly housed such stables, which have been converted into living quarters. This one is unuusually broad for London, and is notable for its plants. The dark clouds are indeed threatening, but rain and thunder came much later (fortunately during our dinner--see below).
We devoted today mainly to recovering from our flight and watching England beat Wales 2-1in their Euro 2016 match, with a goal less than two minutes from the finish--very exciting! We visited our friends Susan and David for dinner--they visited us last March in Paris, where I blipped our visit to the Rodin Museum.
A tragic note: as I write this comment, I'm hearing TV tributes to Jo Cox, an up-and-coming English Member of Parliament, who was brutally shot and knifed after meetings with her constituents. She was 41 and evidently loved and admired by all. Yet another horrid tragedy.
