Eriogonum nudum

As each day passes and the wildflowers grow fewer and farther between, this one keeps going strong: Nude Buckwheat. It's nude because the stem bares no leaves; they grow only from the base of the plant. It's a simple organism, with single green stems terminating in clusters of tiny white flowers. I've identified more than one subspecies at least--this particular one has longer buds than others I've seen. The genus belongs to Polygonaceae, known as the Buckwheat or Knotweed family.
