Spanish Blipmeet Day 3!!

A cooler day, only 29 degrees (!!) so after a morning visit to the local market (extra no1 - no, the dog wasn't for sale, but the sun visor was!) we headed inland to Parc Natural El Fondo, a wetland nature reserve, to see the wild flamingos. Unfortunately it wasn't a case of flamin-go, but flamin-gone! But we still got to enjoy a walk along the boardwalks, with the towering mountains as a backdrop (extra no2).

Our return route took us on a scenic drive around the turquoise waters of the man made reservoir known as the Embalse de la Pedrera (extra no3). The scenery was quite spectacular and reminded me of the Wild West (main photo), with the trees providing a shady spot for lunch. (See extra no4 for my cute canine travelling companions who were drooling at the sight of the picnic!)

The road home then took us through the middle of Las Salinas de Santa Pola Nature Reserve, salt flats that are used for both salt production (extra no5) and also provide a marshy habitat for birdlife. And that's where I finally got to see my flamingos! So that's where they were hiding!! (See extra no6 - not the best photo as they were some distance away from the road and we were travelling along at some speed, but hopefully you can see that they are indeed real live flamingos!!)
