Rivers and Ruins
So much to tell, and so many photos, but Husband is waiting for his dinner... we've just checked into a hotel in Beja (capital of the Lower Alentejo); Portugal is playing Iceland on all the tellys in town; 1:1 as I type...
Spent the day looking at properties in this region - seen some awfully decrepit and isolated ruins, but a LOT of beauty, and experienced a LOT of friendliness. Crossed the Sado River and stopped to walk over the picturesque 1938 red iron bridge at Santa Margarida. Looking down the river, could see the huge columns and spans where they are building the new motorway bridge - the old bridge seems so much more human, especially with the walkways for pedestrians either side.
