Norton Lindsey Windmill

Today seemed like a Windmill sort of day!
This brick tower mill is three storeys high with slightly sloped walls. It stands 42 feet high and 18 feet diameter and was built around 1795. It originally had four sails, but now only two remain in situ. It has a boat-shaped cap with a luffing wheel at it's tail. Inside it has two pairs of stones and all its main machinery remains in tact. Steam power was added in 1889 with a pulley wheel on the outside for the steam drive. The Mill last worked in 1906. It became a Grade II Listed Building in April 1967 and a new cap was fitted in 1977. Today it stands in the back garden of a private house and it is not open to the public..
