A Scottish Lake.

Scotland has lots of lochs, but very few lakes; this is one of them, the Lake of Keithfield, which sits in the policies of Haddo House. It was created by Lord Aberdeen, presumably with a bit of help from his workers, by enlarging the Keithfield Burn, in around 1880. Its purpose was to provide trout fishing for the Laird and his guests, using boats such as these.

The extra is an intriguing echo of life back in those days. The metal plate sits in the old drive into the Haddo Estate. It was connected by underground cables to the nearby gate house. When the Laird's horse carriage passed over it caused a bell to ring in the gate keeper's lodging. He then had to run to the gates and fling them open so that the carriage could pass through without any interruption in its speed! That was the life!
