And the answer is.......

Yes, as Peachez identified, it is a moth catcher or trap. One of our village friends, Martin, is a moth and butterfly expert....it's his job! He set up the trap in our garden on Saturday night. We thought there would be one or two as it had been a damp night and we couldn't see much on the pile of egg boxes. But when he opened it on Sunday morning there were loads...tiny ones, massive ones, pretty ones and one with amazing name eg Hebrew Documentation Moth!!!!

The bigger ones were returned to sleep the day away in the garden. The tiny ones he took home to look at under a microscope.

So this is my favourite..the Ermine Moth looking like it is about to join the House of Lords with its fur collar and Ermine patterned back.

When Martin sends us the list of all we found I will include it in my journal. He plans to come back in August when he says we will find a different selection.

Well done Peachez for knowing what it was!
