Interpretation

I have the impression
that this is being carefully choreographed
and that a dance is due to begin.

The male dancer looks
as if he’s about to turn and move in
on the girl who is theatrically ignoring him.

It’ll be one of those balletic tussles
where, at least for a time,
true love prevails.

Being mimed behind them
is the cutting
and styling of hair.

I feel that, soon,
she will be sitting on his knee
on that central chair.

Or he will be sitting on hers.

Will they leave
together
or go their separate ways?

I expect the ending
will be open
to interpretation.
