Capture of the little bighorn

I took Chris and Pete out to Gamlingay Wood today, as they needed to service their insect traps. Unfortunately it started to rain just as we arrived, and although it had more or less stopped by half-past one, and started to warm up a bit, the vegetation was too wet to do any active survey work so our trip was rather shorter than anticipated 

I wandered round with the camera while they were working, and although there wasn't too much about, all the insects were quite cold and sluggish! I photographed a Garden Chafer Phyllopertha horticola, covered in raindrops (see extra) and this glitzy little Yellow-barred Long-horn moth Nemophora degeerella, the males of which have extremely long antennae, and dance communally in sunny places in woodland. They are worth looking at closely as the lower wings are a glorious shade of metallic purple.
