Public piano

I’ve had to work all this weekend on a big conference at the Holiday Inn on Aytoun Street in the city centre. I went in early and took the tram into the city centre. The tram was quiet as it was Sunday morning. Later on it all got really busy with people heading up to Heaton Park for the massive Parklife Festival. I could have got off a couple of stops earlier but I decided to get off at Victoria Station and walk back through the city centre to the hotel.

They have one of those public pianos in the station which are there to encourage people to play. I’ve never seen anyone use this one but was lucky this morning. The station was quiet and I could just hear this young lady playing it. She was rather good. It turned out she was a student from the Royal Northern College of Music and has a diploma in music. If you want to hear someone playing one of these pianos this is the sort of person you would want.
