Miss L on the Beach

I could have picked dozens of photos today (See extras!!)
We've had a fantastic last day!!
I've been promising the Little Misses all week that today was the day we could go to the beach, go into the sea and stay all day.
We had a last scrummy breakfast, packed up and tidied the gite before heading off to the beach at St Aubin. I did ask the Little Misses if they wanted to be adventurous and discover a new beach but they are their mother's daughters and they wanted to go to our usual spot on our usual beach!!
They went in with their body boards and had a fabulous half hour squealing and dashing in and out of the waves. Then they went a bit blue and had to get out shivering and with chattering teeth.
We headed up to our usual cafe, sat in our usual spot and ordered beers while the Little Misses built giant sandcastles on the beach below us. The waitress greeted us like long-lost family! It's nice to be regulars!
We ordered lunch once the feats of engineering were finished and we enjoyed our last French meal - moules-frites for me, steak and frites for Mr K and Miss L, and a ham galette for Miss E. Followed by chocolate mousse for me and chocolate and mint-choc-chip ice cream for everyone else. Delicious!!
Suddenly it was 3pm and time to head for the ferry. It was only fifteen minutes away so we were soon onboard! Along with lots of WW2 jeeps and soldiers.
It was like a mini cruise - glorious weather and seats outside on deck! The Little Misses waved in the direction of Nana and Papa on the beach (twenty miles away) but we're not sure if they saw us!!!
There was excitement and craziness in the cabin involving ladders and top bunks, then half an hour in the children's room for the Little Misses  playing on a soft play climbing frame and watching cartoons while Mr K and I drank tea and coffee.
We had dinner in the restaurant - lots more chips and delicious French pastries! Then it was back to the cabin for the rest of the journey. Watching the sea out of the window, reading, snoozing, playing on iPads, going loopy on the top bunks and generally enjoying the trip!!
The journey home from Portsmouth was uneventful. Apart from the apoclyptic thunderstorm we drove into!! The sky went ridiculously dark, there was forked lightning and torrential rain. It was proper dramatic!!
We made it home safely, chucked the Little Misses into their beds, put the stinky cheese into the fridge, put a load of laundry on and fell into bed ourselves.
What a wonderful time we've had!! History, remembrance, delicious food, great beaches, wonderful countryside and people, a gorgeous gite, lovely family time.
Brilliant!!!
