Notebook

Esme kept a notebook full of stories. When we pestered her enough, she would tell us one. This story was about a girl called Esme who lived on a tiny island that supported a single tree which, in turn, supported Esme. Its leaves gave her shelter from the sun and its fruit fed her. Scattered on the horizon, Esme could see other tiny islands. Maybe they had people living on them as well?

One day, Esme cut down the tree and used its trunk to make a boat and its leaves to make a sail and she packed up a parcel of its fruit and set off to explore the other islands.
