Restoration

We arrived in Athens this morning and went up to the Acropolis. There are ongoing major restoration works using marble quarried from the same mountains as the original. The restored pieces look whiter, but will take on the usual yellow tinge as minerals in the marble oxidise. The guides have been great in instructing us re the ancient construction methods both here and in Ephesus. It has been a really interesting experience.
