Sweet Summers Night

On my lunch-break today I popped outside with my visiting Mum to have an ice lolly whilst looking over the river. It was so hot and peaceful outside. We immediately saw three boys- they must have been about 9 or 10, splattering about and completely covered in mud from the river bed. After a while they swam over to the mud banks on the opposite side, and spent ages sliding through the mud down to the water like seals. It was a scene from a film I haven't watched. It was so nice to see their innocence and sense of adventure. I'm sure their parents would have had a fit if they'd known what they were up to, but they couldn't have cared less. It's sad that sense of adventure and care-freeness gets lost with age, or when your sensible brain starts to kick in.

After an afternoon of work and boring adult stuff, I spent the evening down on the quay with beer, friends and wedding cake; an excellent combination for a summers evening.
