Just a thought
Many Blipers will know I am, in general, Farmer friendly and believe we consumers ought in many cases to be paying more for good quality, respectfully and fairly produced foodstuffs.
in days gone by, we have required farmers to produce more and more, as quickly as possible as cheaply as possible to keep us alive (eg WWII and the years thereafter). This they did but as we now know it has had it's price for our environment.
Sadly this trend continues although all signs show we need to slow down. This farmer has invested in recent years on huge new machines, frankly much too big for the area and the 70 odd milk cows he has.
Today he was doing the second silage cut for the year despite the ground being largely flooded. One has to ask oneself why? Whats the rush? OK the weather isn't great for many things but the grass is doing well in the warm, humid wet conditions. Why not leave it a few days until the ground is a bit dryer.
This particular field is relatively dry as it's on a slope, but the farmer is doing all his fields today regardless.
