LUPINS

Lupins  belong to a diverse genus of the legume family and have been a traditional food in the Mediterranean region and the Andean Highlands for more than 4,000 years. During the 20th century they were domesticated for modern agriculture and have been an important protein source in many parts of the world. The earliest archaeological reports on lupins are referred to in the XII dynasty of Egyptian Pharaohs, over 2,000 years BC, although seeds have been found in some Egyptian tombs and dated back to 22nd century BC. I always find it interesting to look up facts about plants as I don't know much about them !  I had to stick my camera through railings to get these lovely specimens.
