Gently down the stream

Searching for Jane Austen

This is the house in Winchester where Jane Austen died.  As you can see, there is a great big plaque on the wall to tell you so.  I think it drives the occupants mad, people stare at the house and try to peer through the windows the whole time.

And of course, as always in these situations, you hear - ahem - knowledgeable visitors continually giving each other misinformation.  As today, husband to wife (it would be!), "Oh yes, she's buried in Winchester Abbey."  Winchester's last abbeys went thanks to Henry VIII.

A couple of years ago I dug up a piece of dressed stone from Hyde Abbey in my garden.  And I used to take my daughter to the Jane Austen house for mums and tots singing when she was two.  So there's a thorough ragbag of information and probably all I have to say about today  ;))

Happy Thursday evening - and thanks to all of you lovely people who helped to squeeze yesterday's poppy onto page one of the pops  xx
