Mondsee

The last day of our holiday and pedalled back to our starting point in Mondsee in a heavy downpour. Thankfully we got into our hotel early and got dried out fairly quickly. The main landmark of Mondsee is the Basilica of St Michael which was built in the 12C. It's one of the largest Gothic churches in Austria and has a very ornate baroque interior dating from the 17c. More recently it was the church that was used for the wedding scene for The Sound Of Music - I suspect this may be the main reason why folk visit it these days though it is a very beautiful building.
