Mystery Mosaic

There are a series of mosaic artworks spread all around the Northern Quarter and installed over a number of years by self-styled Mosaicist Mark Kennedy. Oddly, all of them are of the usual Mancunian suspects and well known iconic figures, except that is, this one above the Fresh Bites kebab shop and the Hilton Street road sign. Some say this small mosaic is just an image of a young Richard Leese (long-time leader of Manchester City Council), and others say one of the Kray twins (but why?)

Even the street signs here were subject to a public art design some years ago, with artist Tim Rushton working with Majolica Works pottery to create his Cypher typeface and white-on-blue ceramic signs like this one for roads running east-west, and vice versa for those running north-south.
