Seal

15.9C (it was warmer than that this afternoon!) and foggy. Clearing in the afternoon but very hazy out to sea. Flat calm (not even a zephyr!).

We stayed home this morning since it was foggy and so Maeve the Deerhound could have a lazy day.

In the afternoon we went the ten miles or so South to Southend then followed the road round past Dunaverty beach to Carskey Bay where we had a wander along the beach. Well, I had a wander along the beach. Maeve paddled along in the shallows, and Apothecary7 waded along more than paddled. Maeve looked much happier on the way back along the sand, breaking into one or two short runs and looking almost bouncy.

We drove back to Southend and had tea and cake in the Muneroy tearoom. Yes .. it was open :-)

After tea we drove back round to Keil cemetery hoping to see some seals. One seal was swimming round some rocks very near the shore.  There was a man down at the edge of the water with a camera. Once he moved off the seal hauled out onto the rocks. I moved down nearer the waters edge very slowly and sat down. The seal stayed on the rocks. If you look carefully to the right you might see her youngster on the rocks too, no doubt the reason for her caution. There is an Oystercatcher too. As we were driving off to go home I noticed the young seal hauling itself further up the rocks. One or two other seals were bobbing about offshore.

Note: The extra is the wide angle version for Wide Angle Wednesday ... who could resist posting the closer shot as the main blip !
