Midnight ball

As darkness falls the security lights come on when the beam is broken, and provide the spotlights for the ballet of insects that cluster and dance around the bulb.

The dazzling chorus line of the midges, the stately pas de deux of the moths and the darting jeté of the night flies produce a display worthy of any kaleidoscope.

Apart from the annoyance of the midge bites, the dancing insects provide a lovely end to the day, as the warmth of the sun is replaced by the soft silver caress of the coming moon, it is a cultural festival in miniature.

Perfect backdrop for a glass of Rioja.
