Sketchbook #37: Armitage - @seanpphillips @2000AD
Twenty-five years ago this month, a new character called Armitage was introduced in the pages of the Judge Dredd Megazine. Inspired by my love of Inspector Morse, I had a hand in creating this curmudgeonly 22nd Century British detective - but it was writer Dave Stone and artist Sean Phillips who breathed life into Armitage on the page. The character has endured and is currently appearing in 2000AD comic.
Sean is now a rightly celebrated artist working almost exclusively for American comics, often with writer Ed Brubaker on gritty noir titles like Criminal, Fatale, and The Fade Out. if you buy a collected edition of their work direct from Sean, he'll sign the book and throw in a free sketch - pay a visit to his online story here.
When I ordered Volume 2 of Incognito from Sean this week, I couldn't resist asking him for a wee sketch of Armitage. - the results appear above. Mint!
