Bellbird

On our way to an appointment in Nelson, Blipmate and I stopped at a bird hide in Richmond that we have recently discovered. We sat inside, cameras at the ready and peering out at the array of foods that had been put out to attract the birds

It was wonderful - the bird song alone was lovely. We saw tuis, bellbirds, waxeyes and sparrows to name a few. Unfortunately, it was fairly dark in the bush and all the shots have a very high ISO.

This blip is the bellbird  or Korimako, a native bird of NZ. They are a secretive bird and although their glorious song is often heard, they are not so often seen. A tui is in the extras.

The Bellbird always materialised silently at the feeders whereas the tui announced his arrival loudly and we could hear the whirr of the wings as they approached.

We will definitely go back again
