Surprise!!
Why should I wish to see God better than this day?
I see something of God each hour of the twenty-four, and each moment then,
In the faces of men and women I see God, and in my own face in the glass,
I find letters from God dropt in the street, and every one is sign'd
by God's name,
And I leave them where they are, for I know that wheresoe'er I go,
Others will punctually come for ever and ever.
~ Walt Whitman, Song of Myself
This definitely falls under the category of "being in the right place at the right time."
I had gotten wind that there was a beautiful field of Dame's Rocket wildflowers blooming off of Apple Butter Road; and so it was that I found myself slowly traversing the street, carefully studying the landscape for the lush carpet of purple, lavender and white that I was diligently seeking.
I hadn't traveled far when I noticed increasing stands of the Dame's Rocket (which many times are confused with the nearly identical Phlox). Just as I rounded a slight curve, I noticed a doe standing in the middle of the road, and as I slowed to a stop, I realized that I had arrived at the very field I had been seeking.
The doe that had stopped me moved slowly off to the right, slipping into the dense foliage growing there. As she retreated, I turned my attention to the glorious field of wildflowers to my left and began shooting pics, with the setting sun as a fitting backdrop.
It was at this point that I spotted another doe smack dab in the middle of the field and looking straight at me.
I excitedly zoomed in and trained my lens on her and snapped a couple more. I was lucky enough to capture this image just before she bounded away into a little grove of trees that stands at the top of the hill there.
I was pretty far away from the little doe and my camera doesn't have an
extremely strong zoom but I am still just so pleased that I was graced to
even witness such a tender and beautiful sunset with the does.
