Gypsie
Gypsie was sold to me & my friend as an experienced riding horse, but within weeks we found she had never been broken in or ridden, and they had lied to make a profit.
We initially considered selling her as she was wild, but then found out her history & went soft. She was used as a brood mare to have lots of foals because of her perfect Gypsy Cob markings & form, and was never seen as anything more than an opportunity for breeding.
We learnt natural horsemanship from scratch with her (all of us learning alot very quickly) and her manner has changed. Natural horsemanship teaches us to read what the horse might be experiencing through studying their behaviour & instincts. A low head & loose jaw shows a relaxed horse happy to take second place in the herd because they can see there is someone else in charge.
We are not riding her much yet but slowly we are enjoying working with her & learning as much about our own selves (what time is it? When i get home i must remember to..) as in order to see her behaviours & respond to them, we must be totally present ourselves.
Today she breathed her hot air in my face as i left & i was very grateful to have such a beautiful animal in my care.
