Life through the lens...

Unusual combination!

Blackcurrant and mint pie!
A very strange combination I know but it does work and tastes wonderful.
Blackcurrants are very tart, and need plenty of sugar, and with this recipe you mix a large spoonfull of chopped fresh mint with the sugar, when you sprinkle it over the berries, before cooking.
Serve with plenty of cream!

I have been making this since 1976, when I bought the Reader's Digest book, The Cookery Year.
A very good cookery book which I use quite a lot. I am always buying new books, but still go back to the old ones that I have had for years.

First job this morning taking garden rubbish to the tip.
Then to the fruit farm, where we picked raspberries, broad beans, and the blackcurrants.
No strawberries because of the rain, and the rasps. weren't very good either.
The broad beans tasted nice. Had them for tea along with new potatoes, and a French beef daube. Followed by the above pie!
A few glasses of red wine, and now feel rather full!

The weather has been mainly dull today, but very warm. The sun however did make a brief appearance this afternoon.
(Why is it we always mention the weather?)

Nearly the weekend and also the Olympics.
A good start with the girl's football team win.
No doubt we will be watching the opening ceremony tomorrow.
Good luck to all those who are competing!
