Although this is not one of the colourful moths it is impressive as it is one of the largest moths in Britain and I estimated that its wingspan was about 80 cms.  The Poplar Hawkmoth is fairly common but as it is nocturnal it is seldom seen in day time but is attracted to light sources after dark.
