Cliff Swallow

The cliff swallow's nest is formed from 900-1200 mud balls carried to the nest site by the parent birds. Cliff swallows will reuse old nests, and mud repairs are made through the breeding season as needed. The inside of the nest is lined with dried grass.

The "cliff" forming the swallow colony's home is an underhang of the U.S. Route 34 bridge over the Fox River in Oswego, Illinois. There are mud nests along both north and south sides of the bridge.

This is another bird which winters in South America!
