Azure Damselfly
I had a meetup with some of the Ely Friends today at Kings Dyke Nature Reserve. There were supposed to be about 9 of us but one-by-one the girls cancelled and so it ended up being just me and 3 chaps. I didn't mind, I had met them all once or twice before whereas I didn't recognise any of the ladies on the list anyway.
The purpose of the trip was a fossil find which was great fun. I kept the Nikon packed away though as there was clay and stone and pickaxes all over the place!
Of our little group I had the best find which was a Belemnite - ancestor to a squid. We were all hoping for an ammonite but no luck today.
2 of the guys stayed digging while the 2 of us with cameras explored a little more of the reserve. This meant a close encounter with a couple of slow worms and about a million ants but best of all a few beautiful dragonflies and damselflies and I learnt the best way to remember which is which. Dragonflies rest with their wings open, damselflies with them closed!
No dogs allowed so Stella stayed at Granny's house and we had a lovely sunset walk this evening :)
I got the blog fixed but Google can take up to 4 weeks to remove the 'may be hacked' message from their search page. Very helpful. Not.
